4 Month Pics

James was not very cooperative this time around.  The boy smiles 90% of the time, but as soon as I broke out my camera, the smiles disappeared.  So I now present the somber side of James Hardin.

Showing Teddy how old he is

Shocking, I know

The only (half) smile I could capture.  His Daddy was making faces at him.
Our little angel

James likes to lift his legs now and grab his toes.  Very helpful when changing his diaper.

At one point he got so fed up with Daddy trying to make him smile that he stole his glasses

Sweet, tired boy

Are we done yet?

This picture pretty much sums up what James thought of the photo session:

Blowing me a big, fat raspberry.

We had his 4 month doctor's appointment last week, and his doctor said (and I quote) "He is wonderful."  He was all smiles for his new doc, and didn't even mind the three shots all that much (although he complained about them quite a bit later that afternoon).  He's up to 14lbs 7oz (a little over double his birth weight), but is still a little small for his age, coming in at the 35% percentile (up from 25% at his last two appointments).

In true James fashion, he hit another milestone this week that we both missed.  Shortly after Matthew left for work on Monday, I laid him in his crib on his back so he could look at his mobile while I went to the restroom.  When I came back, he was on his tummy and was looking at me with a huge grin.  It was the first time he rolled from back to belly.  He's also been scooting around quite a bit - it's pretty funny to watch.  He kind of looks like a little inchworm, raising his butt up in the air.  I think he's ready to start crawling :)

James & Everett

On Saturday, Matthew, James, & I drove down to Chicago to see my friends Sterling and Stephanie, and to meet their son Everett, who is exactly one day older than James.  Isn't he a cutie?

Everett had an extra Bumpo chair that he kindly gave to James.  Being the confident man that he is, James didn't mind so much that it was purple.

We thought it might be cute to pose the boys with Elmo, but James thought otherwise and promptly gave him a smack to the head.  Look at that mischievous grin on my boy, while Everett looks on sadly.

The boys hit it off, and were soon in deep conversation about their mutual love for milk and Bumpo chairs.

Everett, who is possibly the best sleeper ever (the boy started sleeping through the night at 2 months!  I'm talking 9-11 hours at a single go.  Matthew and I are just a little jealous.), went down for a nap, so James hung out in his chair alone while the adults enjoyed some yummy Korean tacos and Vietnamese sandwiches.

After lunch, James peed through his diaper, dinosaur onesie, and onto my leg.  Hence the outfit change.  After Everett's nap the boys hung out with their Daddies for a little bit.

And James, who couldn't keep his eyes off of Stephanie, got to chill with her for a little bit.

The little guys spent some time on their tummies together and finished their conversation.

By the end of it, they were best buds

So much so, that they decided to hold hands (they were a little shy about it)

And now for a few shots of Mr. Everett & his parents:

Sterling, Matthew, James and I went out for a little walk, and came across the "Petal Pub."  How cool is this? A bar on a bicycle!

On the way back to Wisconsin, we decided to make a detour and went to the Drive-In to see the Harry Potter movie.  Matthew & I are huge fans, and weren't sure if we'd get to see the last movie of the series in theaters with the little guy in tow.  Aside from crying during a pivotal scene towards the end, James did really well at his first trip to the Drive-In.

Coming soon: James's 4 month pics.  Hope everyone had a great weekend!

James & Jack

We got to hang out with some of our favorite people for a little bit on Sunday afternoon: John and Celena Badylak, and their adorable 9 month old, Jack.  We met up at an art fair that was held at the square outside of the state capital, then grabbed some lunch and walked over to the Terrace (the outdoor patio of the University of Wisconsin Student Union).

Matthew & John went to medical school together at Indiana, and although we didn't make it last year because someone was 9 months pregnant, the four of us along with another couple go on an annual ski/snowboard trip.  We're excited for James & Jack to become ski buddies :)

John just finished a surgical residency at the University of Wisconsin, and the left today for Abilene, Texas where John will be starting a new job in August.  We are really going to miss them!

I shared a couple of the pictures on Sunday's 10 on 10, but couldn't resist sharing a few more.

Lunch time
It is very brave of John to pull off this move after Jack's lunch.
How do you do?
Very well, thank you.
Lets shake hands.
They're already great friends.
James loves Jack
And is very sad that he's moving far away.
Isn't he adorable?!?
Look at those eyes!  He's going to be a heartbreaker some day.
What are you looking at??

July 10 on 10

Yesterday I took part in the 10 on 10 project.  Once a month on the tenth, participants take a photo an hour for ten consecutive hours to document the life and beauty among the ordinary things of our day.  Click HERE or on the button to the right for more information about the project.  Enjoy!
