The Big Move - Day 4

James slept really well in Alexandria, MN, after having slept in the car the night before.

After a nice stretch, he's ready to start the day.

While Mommy & Daddy were getting things packed up (with 2 cats and a little guy, you wouldn't believe how much stuff we lugged into the hotel rooms each night!), James struck a Dr. Evil pose while contemplating what mischief he could cause during the final day of the trip...

Grandpa baby-sat James while Mommy, Daddy, and Uncle Jason grabbed a surprisingly yummy breakfast at the hotel restaurant.  Looks like they're having a good time.

Since we had a little less than 400 miles to go before reaching our final destination, we took a few more leisurely stops and the boys humored me and my picture taking.  Here is James hanging out with Uncle Jason at a rest stop somewhere in Minnesota:

Goofing off with Daddy & Uncle Jason.  Uncle Jason's hat is just a little bit too big.  Don't worry, James.  You'll grow into it.

Three generations of Nett Men:

James was pretty restless after 4 days on the road, so we had to come up with several ways to occupy his time.  He read from a big boy book (I swear, this photo was not posed - he grabbed the book right out of my hands!)

Tried to eat Played with his toy hammer that Grandma gave him

And when all else failed, he played with his toes, which is especially fun when combined with making fart noises.

We finally made it to Wisconsin (sorry for the terrible picture!)

We stopped in Menomie for a quick bite to eat, and Jason bought us a big bucket full of berries from a little stand that was set up in the gas station parking lot.  I think we ate half of them before we even made it to our new place.

Jason was a little tired of driving after 1600+ miles, so we took another break and James offered to take the wheel for a little bit.

Our truck rental was from Indiana, which Daddy & James thought was pretty cool.  James wanted a picture next to the license plate while wearing his Indiana onesie (ok, Mommy wanted a picture of him, but James was very agreeable, even though he wouldn't look at the camera).  In case you haven't noticed, the little man averaged 2.5 outfits a day.  He only pooped on two - the rest were victim to massive amounts of spit up.

The last couple of hours on the road, James was not a happy camper.  As you can see from the cheesehead, he was more than ready to officially be a Wisconsinite.  He fell asleep angry just as we were taking the exit for our new place.  He has a special knack for falling asleep right before making a stop (and them promptly waking up once the car stops moving).

When we arrived at our place around 5pm, we found that the garage code provided by the landlord did not work.  James & I hung out on a blanket in the shade, while Matthew called the landlord and property management company (neither of which he could get a hold of) and Jason & Jim tried to break into our place.  Who'd have thought Jim knows how to pick a lock? Too bad the lock he picked was only for the furnace room.

After about an hour, one of our neighbors came home and knew where a hidden key was, so we were finally able to step foot in our apartment.  We were pretty disappointed in the condition of the place, but Jim and Jason were AMAZING and helped us clean up (I'll spare you the gross pictures of the oven & toilets!) while I watched the little guy, Matthew, Jason, and our good friend John Badylak unloaded the truck, and John's wife Celena picked us up some pizza.

Jim and Jason stayed with us for another day to help out, and spend some time with James.  Under minimal supervision, Uncle Jason changed his first diaper ever.  James thought he did a pretty good job.

James thought about officially baptizing Jason into the diaper changing society, but decided not to.  Next time though, he better watch out!

Uncle Jason, you are welcome to change diapers any time you want!

James also got a good bedtime story from Grandpa, who used to read to Daddy every night before he went to bed.

After 4 days, 1949 miles, and 10 baby outfits, we are finally Madisonians.  We celebrated by taking our little cheesehead to the Madison Farmer's Market, which is held at the capitol.

Hello, Wisconsin!
